In the briefest of moments, a catastrophic injury can shatter someone’s life.
Surviving is just the start.
Most do not get the full support they need throughout the daunting process of recovery. We’re there for people for as long as it takes, because we believe that no one should be left to rebuild their life on their own.
We offer practical and emotional support to anyone who has experienced major trauma in the UK through our national support line. We also provide bedside support in several Major Trauma Centres through our caseworkers, and in other major trauma hospitals through our outreach workers. Our peer support volunteers with lived experience of major trauma provide support throughout the UK.
Every 20 minutes, someone with life-changing injuries is admitted to a UK Major Trauma Centre. Our vision is to ensure that no one is left to cope with catastrophic injury on their own.
Caring
It’s in our DNA – it’s what we do. We always treat people with respect, taking time to listen carefully and understand, responding to individual circumstances.
Ambitious
We’ll do whatever it takes to achieve our vision. It’s not enough that people are surviving. We’re determined that everyone has the help they need to rebuild their lives and we will not stop until they do.
Open
We’re transparent and accountable. We’re happy to share information and provide a rationale for our actions. We seek feedback, especially from those with lived experience, to continuously improve and be a positive force in the world.
Inclusive
We’re a community and in this together. We value diversity, including diversity of thought, ideas and experiences.
Authentic
People with first-hand experience of life-changing injuries are at the heart of everything we do. We listen and communicate honestly and constructively. We’re mindful of our impact on others and are always true to ourselves.
We champion people with lived experience of life-changing injuries. Our peer supporters help people who have been through major trauma in a way only they can. Sometimes, only someone who has been through it themselves can truly understand what it’s like. We aim to match volunteers with people who have recently gone through something similar. They benefit from helpful conversations and support from someone who is further along the journey.
We also amplify the voices of people with lived experience of major trauma to help shape our campaigns for change and research to inform the future of trauma care.
