Our founder
Leading Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon, Professor Giannoudis, recognised significant gaps in the care and guidance that people need to move forward positively with their lives. So, in 2014, led by the Prof himself and a number of his former patients, Day One was born. Many dedicated patients continue to be involved today as peer supporters, fundraisers and our biggest champions. What began in Leeds General Infirmary, as part of the Leeds Teaching Hospital Trust, soon gained passionate support. Inspiring greater ambition for a national network of trauma care.
2021
On 1st May 2021, Day One became an independent, registered national charity.
Our team proudly embarked on ambitious plans for expansion of services to other MTCs as well as offering national support.
2024
We’re proud to offer our services across seven Major Trauma Centres and through a national support service – with a growing loyal and valued community of supporters and a powerful sphere of influence.
And beyond...
We simply won’t stop until we’ve achieved our vision: to ensure no one is left to cope with catastrophic injury on their own.
