Our legal panels
A key element of the support that Day One offers to people affected by serious injury is access to free, confidential legal advice on any aspect of the law that may be of relevance to them after being injured.
To make this offer a reality, a legal panel has been established to cover each Major Trauma Centre and regional Trauma Network in which Day One has a physical presence through our Caseworker model. Each panel comprises of up to four legal firms, all of which are selected by Day One and then enter into a contractual arrangement with us. Our current legal panels have been selected because of their skills, expertise and the additional value they bring to the partnership. We intend to seek additional partners to join our current legal panel and to establish new ones as the charity expands its services to new areas. This will be done via invitation to tender.
Day One also provides a wider, nation-wide website and telephone-based service to people outside of the areas where we have a physical presence. A legal panel is in place as part of this national offer to ensure that anyone who contacts Day One for advice and support has access to the same level of free legal advice that they would get if they were being cared for within one of the Hospitals that we provided Caseworker services at.
Getting the best advice
The
legal
panels
offer patients and their loved ones a free and no obligation assessment of
their case. This includes providing patients and their
families with information, guidance and assistance
in legal matters in person and over the phone,
during their hospital stay and beyond.
Day One provides patients and their loved ones with information regarding the services available from the legal panels on request but will not pass your data on or make a direct referral on your behalf. There is no transfer of personal data between the charity and any legal firm.
We will only work with law firms who share our commitment to treating everyone with respect and compassion and to supporting recovery from serious injury as effectively as possible.
If you are not happy with the service being provided by your solicitor or wish to make a complaint, you can do this through the firm’s complaints policy, which should be clearly accessible on their website. You can also ask to speak to the partner responsible for looking after clients - often called the Complaints Partner.
If you remain unhappy, it may be possible to change solicitor. Day One can provide advice or assist with any complaint procedures. Call the team on 0300 303 5648 or email dayone@dayonetrauma.org
You can also make a complaint about a personal injury solicitor by contacting the legal ombudsman. Call 0300 555 0333 or go to www.legalombudsman.org.uk. Day One cannot investigate complaints against a solicitor.
