Fans at the Hull Kingston Rovers vs Salford Red Devils Super League Rugby game this Friday will be urged to donate to Day One Trauma Support for the chance to win fantastic prizes in an online draw, as Hull Kingston Rovers and Hudgell Solicitors partner to stage a ‘Community Round’.

Members of the Day One team will attend as guests of Hull KR and Hudgell Solicitors, along with Rob Smith from Hessle, East Yorkshire, who was supported by the charity after a forklift truck accident at work led to him needing his right leg amputated.

Rob says he is keen to spread the word about Day One’s support, and to encourage fans to donate.

“I spent ten days in hospital, where I first came into contact with Day One. They gave me hope,” he said.

“They helped me realise that life would get back to something more normal. They were there not just for me, but for my wife Emma. It felt like people were there for you.

“It was Day One’s founder, Professor Giannoudis, who did my surgery back in 2021. If it hadn’t been for him, and the rest of the team, I think it would have been a different outcome. You don’t realise how much Day One is needed until you go through something like this.”

Rob’s story of recovery and how Day One has helped him will be shared with the crowd on the big screen and in hospitality suites at the match. Find out more about Rob’s story here.

An amazing range of prizes are up for grabs in the online draw including a money-can’t-buy inner sanctum experience at Hull KR for four people, tickets to the Super League Grand Final, VIP match tickets at Hull City, restaurant vouchers, a monthly gym pass and more.

Those who won’t be at the match but want to support Day One and be in with a chance to win can enter the online prize draw here.

Hull KR Prizes

Funds raised will help Day One to support more families impacted by catastrophic injury with emotional support, welfare and benefits advice, peer support and more. Day One receives no NHS or government funding, so relies entirely on voluntary donations in order to provide this crucial support. Hayley Ibbotson, Senior Fundraiser, said “We are very grateful to Hull Kingston Rovers and Hudgell Solicitors for making us a part of their Community Round and allowing us to spread the word on the important work we do, whilst raising vital funds.”

“Despite the excellent clinical care that patients receive in NHS Major Trauma Centres, that care predominantly focuses on treating the physical injuries. Day One is there to provide the vital additional support that's needed, so that patients and their loved ones can rebuild their lives following the devasting impact of a catastrophic injury.”
