In 2020, The Wyss Foundation provided transformational funding, enabling us to become a national charity.
The Wyss Foundation
The Wyss Foundation awarded Day One a generous donation of £1 million in November 2020 to help support its ambitions to roll out its services nationally, through becoming an independent registered charity.
The charitable foundation was founded by philanthropist Hansjörg Wyss. Hansjörg, is the founder and former President and Chairman of Synthes USA, a medical device manufacturer which specialised in advancements in orthopaedic surgery. The company’s products have helped millions of patients all over the world to recover from skeletal and soft tissue trauma and injuries. Synthes, was bought in 2012 by Johnson and Johnson.
Wyss Foundation focuses on funding environmental and conservation causes in the US, but also awards funding to support advancements in health worldwide that will advance patient care.
Our esteemed President, Professor Peter Giannoudis, a world leader in orthopaedic trauma surgery, on behalf of Day One was first awarded £500,000 from Wyss Foundation in 2016, in order to help fund the charity’s creation.
The most recent donation reflects the continued commitment of the Wyss Foundation towards supporting Day One Trauma Care, enabling it to embed its unique model of support across the wider NHS and even to go on to act as a blueprint which can be replicated in other countries in the future.
…we have a small favour to ask.
More people than ever need Day One’s support, but we don’t have the income to keep up with demand.
We’re determined to help people rebuild their lives after a catastrophic injury, wherever they are in the country.
If this page has inspired or moved you, please consider chipping in to help. We can achieve great things with you by our side, so please consider supporting Day One.
You can give as little as £1 – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
